Assignment 2: FIU bans smoking on campus

FIU bans smoking on campus for students, faculty and visitors but they cannot smoke in their own cars, what? I do not agree with banning smoking on campus period, I like the idea of having a secluded area to smoke even if it is a far distance but you can't smoke in your own car that is ridiculous. As a student and smoker myself, I can deal with not smoking on campus because it does bother people and causes second hand smoke. That is forcing people to quit something they do not want to quit. It is a personal decision. That is like making someone quit drinking soda, eating fast food, listening to music while they drive, etc. It's just outrageous. Let's say a professor has been smoking since their early twenties, how do you force them to quit now that their in their forties and fifties. The article says: "Students and faculty have had plenty of time to get used to the idea - on March 23 of last year, there was a campus-wide forum held to discuss the possibility of a ban and encourage smokers to start the process of quitting as early as July 1st." You cannot stop smoking from one day to another especially if they smoke three or more times a day. If smokers start a petition to un-ban smoking on campus, the University would have to seclude an area as I said earlier in this article. Myself, particularly would start that petition if I attended FIU and I smoke once a day, two times a day at most. Now imagine those who do it more and have done it longer.

Assignment 1: What I did for Christmas break...

Early winter break, before any holidays occured, my bestfriend moved to Texas right after high school came to visit me. We have a mutual agreement that we take turns of visiting each other. I went December 2009 and now he came. The first couple weeks I was with him whether it be clubbing on weekends, getting dinner, walking the mall or even going to each others house and playing video games. He left on December 21, which to me sucked because he's more like a brother to me which i've been used to doing things with him because of high school and how close we stayed. I did not travel this winter break but on December 27 my older brother came from Hawaii where he was stationed at and is moving to Virginia. He came to spend New Years with us. I was basically a chaueffer to my brother because I am not 21 yet but I didn't mind because I don't see him as much because of his duties to the Army and my duties to the Army. I was working until I was laid off due to the economy but at the same time it was perfect timing because of my older brothers arrival. I enjoyed both visits from my bestfriends and my older brother, in addition to staying with the family and friends who came over for New Years. For Christmas we celebrated early because my parents had to work and kind of sucked but I understand. On New Years eve my brother, myself and some friends went to the gun range to finish 2010 with a BANG (literally). We shot baby eagles, smith and wesson .22, 223 and a shotgun. As for New Years, we had a feast and party which include more family that came over and friends that came also. It was definitely the best New Years yet.
